Darren K. Parr, Esq.

Darren K. Parr is originally from Coatesville, Pennsylvania where his father worked as a crane operator for Lukens Steel for 30 years. His father was also a grievance man for USW Local 1165 and was instrumental in helping Darren achieve a scholarship from the Steelworkers, which assisted in his ability to be the first in his family to complete college.

Darren attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he was a Board of Governor’s scholar. As an undergraduate at IUP, he was elected president of the student government of the 14,000 student university and subsequently appointed by Governor Ridge to the Council of Trustees for the State System of Higher Education.

After graduating with degrees in both Political Science and Economics, Darren continued his education at IUP, obtaining a Master’s Degree in Industrial and Labor Relations. As a graduate student, Darren studied the labor movement and also interned with the National Labor Relations Board.

In 1994 he launched his legal career by attending the evening program at Duquesne University School of Law. During his four years of law school, he worked full time, first in sales and later as a law clerk doing research and writing briefs on behalf of injured workers seeking workers’ compensation benefits. Upon graduating law school, he worked as an Associate at Goldberg, Persky & White. He began his career litigating workers’ compensation cases on behalf of injured workers. Upon being named a shareholder, he expanded into asbestos litigation in the states of Maine, Michigan and Indiana until officially opening DKP Law on February 1, 2011.

Darren is on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. Additionally, he is the Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Alliance of African American Athletes (NAAAA). NAAAA is a nonprofit organization which through the use of athletics teaches young African American males the importance of a college education by providing SAT prep programs and mentoring programs. He also serves as a volunteer for Christian Legal Aid, an organization providing free legal advice to low income city residents.

In 2010, Darren was named a Man of Excellence by the New Pittsburgh Courier, an honor bestowed upon the 50 most influential African American Males in Pittsburgh each year. Darren has also been awarded the Young Alumni Achievement Award by the IUP Alumni Association.
